Prayer Night @ GCC room G234, 7pm, Friday, 5/3

Hello NoHo Duloi!

This Friday we'll be meeting at church in room G234 (7pm, Friday, 5/3) for prayer. For a portion of our prayer time we will focus on praying through Psalm 139 in small groups. Pascal served us all very well and taught on this Psalm a few weeks ago.

GCC address: 13248 Roscoe Blvd, Sun Valley, CA, 91352

Suggestion for devotions: Read and pray through Psalm 139 in these days leading up to Friday.

(Philippians 4:4-7 ESV)
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

I hope you all have a great week. See you on Friday!

in Christ,
Vince

Proverbs Chapter 7

Proverbs 7.1 ¶             My son, keep my words
                        and treasure up my commandments with you;
Proverbs 7.2    keep my commandments and live;
                        keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;

What repeated expression is used here? What synonyms are used for “words”? What idea is being expressed here?

Proverbs 7.3    bind them on your fingers;
                        write them on the tablet of your heart.

How would you paraphrase the second half of this verse?

Proverbs 7.4    Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
                        and call insight your intimate friend,

What new words are being used to replace the idea of “keep my words”?

Proverbs 7.5    to keep you from the forbidden woman,
                        from the adulteress with her smooth words.

What might the “to,” here indicate? What two similar ideas are used here as were used in verse 1? What might this indicate?

Proverbs 7.6 ¶             For at the window of my house
                        I have looked out through my lattice,
Proverbs 7.7    and I have seen among the simple,
                        I have perceived among the youths,
                        a young man lacking sense,

What words are used to describe “man”?

Proverbs 7.8    passing along the street near her corner,
                        taking the road to her house
Proverbs 7.9    in the twilight, in the evening,
                        at the time of night and darkness.

When does he do this? Shows what about his actions? Which implies what about his conscience?

Proverbs 7.10 ¶           And behold, the woman meets him,
                        dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart.

How does a prostitute dress? What is the purpose of dress for men and women?

Proverbs 7.11 She is loud and wayward;
                        her feet do not stay at home;
Proverbs 7.12 now in the street, now in the market,
                        and at every corner she lies in wait.

What does ubiquity of woman indicate about the temptation towards the man?

Proverbs 7.13 She seizes him and kisses him,
                        and with bold face she says to him,
Proverbs 7.14 “I had to offer sacrifices,
                        and today I have paid my vows;
Proverbs 7.15 so now I have come out to meet you,
                        to seek you eagerly, and I have found you.

How would you summarize this in one statement?

Proverbs 7.16 I have spread my couch with coverings,
                        colored linens from Egyptian linen;
Proverbs 7.17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh,
                        aloes, and cinnamon.

How would you summarize this in one statement?

Proverbs 7.18 Come, let us take our fill of love till morning;
                        let us delight ourselves with love.

How would you summarize this in one statement?

Proverbs 7.19 For my husband is not at home;
                        he has gone on a long journey;
Proverbs 7.20 he took a bag of money with him;
                        at full moon he will come home.”

How would you summarize this in one statement?

What is the man doing this whole time? What is the implication for what we should do in similar situation? Can you think of a biblical example of this?

Proverbs 7.21 ¶           With much seductive speech she persuades him;
                        with her smooth talk she compels him.

How does she persuade/compel him? What is that talk contrasted with from earlier in the chapter?

Proverbs 7.22 All at once he follows her,
                        as an ox goes to the slaughter,
             or as a stag is caught fast
Proverbs 7.23 till an arrow pierces its liver;
             as a bird rushes into a snare;
                        he does not know that it will cost him his life.

He does not know. He is simply and untaught. He has not done what?

Proverbs 7.24 ¶           And now, O sons, listen to me,
                        and be attentive to the words of my mouth.

Immediately the king returns to what in the proverb? What is the implication here?

Proverbs 7.25 Let not your heart turn aside to her ways;
                        do not stray into her paths,

Let not what turn aside? Where are we to write God’s words? What does this indicate to us of where the battle takes place?

Proverbs 7.26 for many a victim has she laid low,
                        and all her slain are a mighty throng.
Proverbs 7.27 Her house is the way to Sheol,
                        going down to the chambers of death.

Biblestudy Friday April 12th @ Dandurand's, 7pm, Psalm 139

Psalm 139 "Neither wings of the dawn nor cloak of night can sepparate me from God"

Theme: "Four elements of Yahweh's omniscience comforting our heart"

Dear Noho Study,
...this coming Friday we are going to study Psalm 139 and here are some questions you can work through in order to prepare yourself for our time...

Verse 1: There is a negative (felt) and positive application in this statement: what would that be, and why?

Verse 9: "Wings of the morning/dawn" and "uttermost sea", what does that mean? What are your thoughts? (maybe look up in some commentaries on some views...)

Verse 13-16: How do these verses relate to abortion? Was that David's intent? If yes/no, give a reason why? If no, what do you think was the reason?

Verse 19-21: What are we as Chrstians doing with the imprecatory language in the Psalms? Explain...

Overall: How can we apply this Psalm to our every day life? What are some good lessons to learn?

Once again I am looking forward to an exciting time of fellowship, singing and studying God's Word!

Many blessings

In His service

Pascal
