Here are the questions:
Proverbs 8:22 +
What is our definition of wisdom?
22 “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work,
the first of his acts of
old.
23 Ages ago I was set
up,
at the first, before
the beginning of the earth.
24 When there were no depths
I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
What expressions are used to describe what was done to wisdom in verses
22-24? i.e. Of what verbs is wisdom the direct object?
What do we learn about wisdom from this?
If
wisdom was created then it belongs in the category of created
things. What exists that God did NOT create? What then can wisdom NOT be? How could Christ be our wisdom without violating this concept?
If wisdom was created at the beginning of creation, how
do you answer the following question: Was wisdom a part of God's character before this? If so, what might it mean that Wisdom was created?
As you read the following verses, compare them to Genesis
1:1 and see if you can tell on what day each of these things happened.
25 Before the mountains had
been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth,
26 before he had made the earth with its fields,
or the first of the dust of the world.
27 When he established
the heavens, I was there;
when he drew a
circle on the face of the deep,
28 when he made
firm the skies above,
when he established the
fountains of the deep,
29 when he assigned
to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the
foundations of the earth,
30 then I was
beside him, like a master workman,
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,
31 rejoicing in his inhabited
world
and delighting in the children of man.
What is Wisdom establishing about herself in verses
25-31?
Genesis 1:1
Day4 - God puts stars in the
heavens and creates the Sun and the Moon each to rule at its time. What where
these things created for? In terms of planetary movement, what is a day, a
season, a year? This is a fun one to do with the kids :-)
Back to Proverbs 8:
32 “And now, O sons,
listen to me:
blessed are those who
keep my ways.
Who is promised
blessing? What does it mean to keep her ways?
33 Hear instruction and
be wise,
and do not neglect it.
34 Blessed is the one
who listens to me,
watching daily at my
gates,
waiting beside my doors.
Again, who is promised
blessing? From our
previous lessons: Wisdom takes work and ___?
35 For whoever finds me
finds life
and obtains favor from
the Lord,
36 but he who fails to
find me injures himself;
all who hate me love
death.”
What is contrasted here?
From our previous lesson, Who does NOT find wisdom?
