Dear Noho Family
This Friday night we will have again the privilege to get together for fellowship, teaching and encourage each other in our faith. This time we will look at Psalm 138. I am looking forward for a great time and good discussions.
We will meet in rooms G234-235, this is around the corner from where we were last time. We start at 7pm.
If you would like to prepare yourself a little bit, here are some questions which we are going to work through:
1) What does the expression "befor gods" in verse 1 mean? Does it mean that the Bible acknowledges other gods?
2) On the grounds of the expression "holy temple" in verse 2, the davidic authorship has been doubted. Why do you think this happened? Is there a way to reason otherwise? (study 1Sam 1:9, and 3:3) (take also a look at the place of the psalm in the Psalter, especially in light of Psalm 72:20 and Psalm 137, which was obviously written in exile)
2a) Does the idea if "bowing down towards a holy temple" bring other connotations to your mind? Think about other religions.
3) The literal wording of verse 2 is "you have exalted your word above all your name", what does that mean? Any ideas?
4) What are the practical implications of verses 1-3? What does it tell you about worship?
5) What era of redemptive history are verses 4-5 referring to? When will this happen?
6) Reading verse 7, what famous passage comes to your mind immediately?
7) What picture do verses 7-8 paint? How do you apply these to your daily life?
I am looking forward to see all of you
Shalom
Pascal
